Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator - Roald Dahl

Charlie and his family board Willy Wonka’s Great Glass Elevator to return to the chocolate factory. During their flight, the Elevator accidentally enters orbit and docks at the empty Space Hotel “U.S.A.”.

Confused officials, including President Lancelot R. Gilligrass, suspect the group of being aliens. Wonka tries to bluff them with gibberish, but the hotel houses dangerous shape-shifting Vermicious Knids.

The Elevator narrowly escapes as the Knids attack, injuring astronauts and staff. Braving the Knids in orbit, the Elevator rescues the stranded Commuter Capsule and safely returns to Earth, crashing through the factory roof. The Oompa-Loompas welcome Wonka back, relieved after his prolonged absence.
