The Blair Years - Alastair Campbell

The Blair Years by Alastair Campbell draws on extracts from his diaries during his time working for Tony Blair. Published by Random House on 9 July 2007, just two weeks after Blair resigned as prime minister, it was the first major insider diary of the Blair era.

The book revealed, among other things, that Blair had considered resigning as early as June 2002 and that civil servants had contingency plans for an interim government led by Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott if Blair had lost the Commons vote on the Iraq War.

The BBC produced a three-part series, The Alastair Campbell Diaries, based on the book, which aired shortly after its release. The Blair Years won the Channel 4 Political Book of the Year award in 2008.
