The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince), written and illustrated by French aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, was first published in 1943 in both English and French by Reynal & Hitchcock in the United States.

After France’s liberation, it was released posthumously, since Saint-Exupéry’s works had been banned under the Vichy regime.

The novella tells the story of a young prince who travels from planet to planet, including Earth, exploring themes of love, friendship, loneliness, and loss.

With over 140 million copies sold, it remains Saint-Exupéry’s most celebrated work and one of the best-selling books in history.

Translated into more than 505 languages and dialects, it is the second most translated work in the world, surpassed only by the Bible. The timeless story has inspired countless adaptations across media, from stage and film to ballet, opera, and radio.
